媒体艺术概览

The 媒体艺术 major provides the opportunity for students to develop creative, 概念上的, 以及跨课程的技术技能 电影, 摄影, 平面设计, 和 fosters a critical awareness of contemporary, convergent media practices. Students are asked to become agents for change within the context of their discipline, asking critical questions about the impact of media in an increasingly global arena. 研究生s will be prepared to assume roles in media 艺术s production industries or pursue graduate programs in related fields.

The media 艺术s curriculum explores the creative tension between individual expression 和 the social 和 political forces that shape mediated networks within culture.

  • All students complete a capstone seminar that channels the knowledge they’ve accumulated into a discipline-specific project under close faculty guidance. Chatham is one of the few universities across the country that offers such an independent 和 student-driven undergraduate thesis project.
  • Chatham is walking distance to many of Pittsburgh’s best-loved 艺术s institutions 和 organizations, 包括 卡内基艺术博物馆匹兹堡电影制片人， 卡内基音乐厅 和 弗里克艺术博物馆. Chatham students enjoy free admission to the Carnegie Museums with their student ID.

This course introduces students to the methodology of cultural studies. In this survey course, students learn skills essential to analyzing social constructions of identity. 特别注意不同的文本, 包括电影, in order to locate how representations of race, 性别, 种族, “otherness” are culturally produced 和 disseminated.

This course is designed to introduce students to black 和 white darkroom 摄影. Students build on camera skills while investigating 35mm 电影 fundamentals 和 wet lab methods. They will study exposure 和 printing in the black 和 white darkroom. A range of photographic materials, analog processes, techniques will be covered. Students will study the photograph as a medium for documentation, representation, expression.

媒介素养

学生探索数字基础, 媒体的历史, 理论框架, critical examination of production elements as they discover how computers are radically changing the way image makers create 和 present their work. Students will gain a working knowledge in digital photo editing, 视频编辑, a variety of other creative software applications.
